Prince William School inclusion conference celebrates equity and diversity

Prince William School in Oundle has hosted its first ever inclusion and diversity conference today (Wednesday) attended by around 150 students from nine schools.

The diversity, equity and inclusion conference invited pupils to discuss issues including challenges facing young men in today’s society and how schools can address socio-economic barriers to learning.

The event concluded with a workshop on what actions students can take back to their schools to implement with immediate effect to bring about positive change.

Each session was introduced by a member of Prince William School’s new student-led Diversity, Equity and Inclusion board, which works to ensure the school celebrates the diversity of its students and staff across all areas.

The conference was attended by Northampton School for Girls, Huxlow Academy, Sir Christopher Hatton Academy, Oundle School, Wollaston School, Wrenn School, Northampton International Academy and Wellingborough School.

Laura Stewart, Deputy Head for Student Engagement and Personal Development at Prince William School and the conference organiser, said: “Our first DEI conference has been a fantastic opportunity to bring together young people to explore ways we can make a real difference to inclusion within our school communities.

“Listening to the discussions and hearing some of the ideas from the students has been incredibly inspiring and shows that there is a real passion for celebrating diversity in this generation of young people.

“I very much hope today’s event will be the first of many we host here at Prince William School and I look forward to seeing the meaningful changes these students can bring about in their schools.”
